Welcome to Sweet-Smarts
People have always sought the taste of sweetness. For early man, sweetness indicated that a food was safe to eat (1). Now sweetness is mainly associated with pleasure. And the variety of sweeteners available has grown tremendously - so much so that it can be confusing to decide which to enjoy.
For anyone who has tried to research sweeteners, the task can be daunting. There is a tremendous amount of information available on different types of sweeteners, but finding accurate information is hard.
Sweet-Smarts.com was created to provide factual information about many of the common sweeteners on the market today.
Our goal is to make it easier to understand sweeteners and the roles they play in the foods we eat and beverages we drink. We hope you find the site useful.
